Meaningful Use Hardship Applications Streamlined

The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently posted information regarding changes to the Medicare EHR incentive Program hardship exception process. CMS is implementing these changes due to the recent passage of The Patient Access and Medicare Protection Act (PAMPA). This legislation included a provision that will allow the CMS the authority to move more quickly on applications for exceptions from Meaningful Use Stage 2 requirements for the 2015 calendar year.
 
The streamlined hardship applications are designed to reduce the amount of information that eligible professionals (EPs) must submit to apply for an exception. Prior to this, CMS was required to review all applications on a “case-by-case” basis. Read more information on payment adjustments and hardship information from CMS here.
 
EPs will have until March 15, 2016, to apply for an exemption from the 2015 meaningful use program year.
