The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has released a new lookup tool that can help clinicians determine their Merit-Based Incentive System (MIPS) participation status. You should have also received a letter (or should in the next week or so) indicating whether or not you are eligible to participate in MIPS.
There are three groups of clinicians who will not be subject to MIPS:
-
Clinicians in their first year of Medicare Part B participation
-
Clinicians that are below the low patient volume threshold (defined as Medicare billing charges less than or equal to $30,000 OR providing care for 100 or fewer Medicare patients in one year)
-
Qualified Participants in Advanced Alternative Payment Models
The interactive tool is located on the
Quality Payment Program website. To determine your status, enter your National Provider Identifier (NPI) into the entry field located on the tool. Information will then be provided on whether or not you should participate in MIPS this year and where to find resources.
