Meeting to Focus on Emerging Technologies in Neuromuscular Medicine

6/17/2014

New sessions at 2014 AANEM Annual Meeting reflect a larger trend in the field—encouraging specialists to think beyond EMG when diagnosing and treating patients with neuromuscular (NM) diseases. The meeting is planned for October 29-November 1, 2014, in Savannah, GA. The plenary, entitled “Emerging Technologies in Neuromuscular Medicine: Beyond EMG,” will feature world class speakers on:
  • Stem cell therapy for motor neuron disease
  • Personalized genomics
  • Adenoviral gene therapy for muscle disease
  • And NM imaging
General sessions on NM issues (which are included in every attendee’s general meeting registration) address issues such as: polyneuropathy, peripheral neuropathies, palliative care, respiratory management in NM disorders, hereditary neuropathies, introduction to common NM disorders, NM therapeutics, pain management and NM disorders, and many more.

Registration is Open

Registration for the 2014 AANEM 61st Annual Meeting is open! Make sure to register before 11:59 p.m. CST on Wednesday, August 6, to receive the early bird registration rate.

Meeting Format Changes

The AANEM Program Committee has increased the number of NM offerings and adjusted the meeting schedule in an effort to accommodate attendees’ busy schedules.

“The meeting format has been redesigned to make AANEM’s signature offerings, the hands-on workshops, available either at the beginning or end of the meeting,” said Francis O. Walker, MD, AANEM president. “Saturday-only registration is available for those who want hands-on training but cannot break away from their practice during the week.”

Collaborations with Peripheral Nerve Society and Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America

The 2014 AANEM Annual Meeting program reflects a new collaboration between the AANEM and the Peripheral Nerve Society (PNS). The PNS-led symposium, “Updates in Genetic Neuropathy,” is scheduled for Wednesday morning. The Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MGFA) again will hold its meeting in conjunction with the AANEM Annual Meeting. The MGFA-led symposium, which highlights research in the area of myasthenia gravis and myasthenic disorders, is planned for Saturday morning.

“We are excited for the opportunity to collaborate with the Peripheral Nerve Society, Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, and similar groups at the meeting. It is our hope that these partnerships will enhance the attendee experience,” said Shirlyn Adkins, JD, executive director.
