President Biden’s Initial Health Care Priorities


On Wednesday, January 20, President Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th President of the United States. In typical presidential fashion, shortly after being sworn in, President Biden issued several executive orders, many of which related directly to health care and, more specifically, the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, as is customary, members of President Trump’s administration, 

2020 Omnibus Bill Averts Expected Medicare Cuts for Neurology and PM&R

The final COVID-19 relief legislation of 2020 was passed by Congress late on December 21. Included in this massive 5,593 page omnibus bill are several provisions expected to have substantial, positive impacts for physicians, including significantly softening what was expected to be a large reduction to the Medicare conversion factor in 2021.

AANEM Comments on 2021 Proposed Update to Physician Fee Schedule & QPP

AANEM staff, with input from the Professional Practice and Quality & Patient Safety Committee members, drafted and submitted a 13-page, detailed comment letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on September 29 regarding its proposed rule changes to Medicare’s Physician Fee Schedule and the Quality Payment Program (QPP) that addressed issues of importance to our membership.

CMS Releases Proposed Updates to Physician Fee Schedule and the Quality Payment Program

On August 3, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a 
proposed rule that includes updates to payment policies, payment rates and quality provisions for services furnished under the Medicare Physician Payment Schedule effective on or after January 1, 2021.

Recap: 2019 AMA House of Delegates Annual Meeting

The AMA’s House of Delegates (HOD) convened in Chicago, IL in early June for its Annual Meeting. During the five days that the House was in session, they considered and debated on over 175 resolutions, covering a wide range of important topics affecting health care in the U.S. Over 2,500 physicians and medical students from all 50 states and more than 115 specialties participated in the meeting.
